Is the staple of Naturopathic medicine. The digestive system is the internal body’s first contact with the external environment and it houses 70% of the body’s immune system; therefore correct digestion and nutrition is imperative for restoring health.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) is the leading nutritional problem in the United States. People are eating too many foods that lack nutrition, ie processed foods, fast food, fatty food, sugary foods.
Many studies have concluded that almost 2/3 of an average American’s diet is made up of bad fats and refined sugars that have minimal or no nutritional content. This contributes to nutrient deficiencies even though people are eating more than enough everyday. The SAD has been continually cited by numerous studies since the 1960’s as a contributing, causative factor in a variety of “killer diseases” including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.
A lot of doctors typically only recognize severe nutritional deficiencies such as beriberi (low Vitamin B1), pellegra (low niacin), scurvy (low Vitamin C), or rickets (low Vitamin D)as problematic and many times the symptoms of nutritional deficiencies are missed and thought of as a normal part of the aging process ie. Joint Pain could be related to increased inflammation due a diet full of inflammatory foods. Muscle pain could also be related to calcium/magnesium deficiencies. Fatigue, poor memory, insomnia, mood swings, depression, and lack of focus are some of the first signs of a B vitamin deficiencies.
The use of oral supplementation can be effective in many cases, however, intravenous infusion of vitamins or IM injections, make these nutrients readily available to the body immediately. We have blood tests in our arsenal to determine specific deficiencies and treat according to your specific needs, which supports our slogan: We Heal, Listen and Touch as well as one of the Naturopathic principle, Treat the cause. The father of medicine, Hippocrates is credited with the quote
“Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Food.”
